Amaurosis Fugax
Description:Amaurosis fugax occurred allegedly due to clumps of plaque in the carotid artery to the retinal artery. Clumps of these cause the blood supply to the retina is lost for sometime. Interruption of blood supply causes the sufferer to lose vision.Symptoms:Symptoms include a sudden loss of vision in one eye. This event is usually only lasts a few seconds but can take several minutes.Treatment:Patients are advised to get immediate medical examination of the eye. The result of the eye doctor to determine treatment performed. If the examination results show that there were more than 70% blockage of the carotid artery, the patient can berecommended for surgery to remove blockage.The decision to perform surgery will also be based on the severity and the patient’s general health. If the patient does not need surgery, doctors usually give aspirin orblood thinners.Some precautions that can be done such as lowering cholesterol, lowering high bloodpressure and quitting smoking can help reduce the risk of this disease.
